And when he finally came back,

after having left behind in shame

those who loved him, what was there

left to love? It was their love for him

that died, and sure, there was hope,

but it was a hope he was gone, that

no stone would be upturned to

reveal love become that: pale and sick,

wounded, convinced of holier things.
